Kyrgyz rights activist Tolekan Ismailova, the leader of the group "Bir Duyno-Kyrgyzstan" (One World Kyrgyzstan), has flown to Almaty, Kazakhstan after being denied entry into Uzbekistan.
Ismailova was detained at the airport in the Uzbek capital after arriving late on June 24.
An official with the Kyrgyz Embassy in Tashkent, Kanatbek Sharshenbek, told RFE/RL on June 25 that Ismailova was not allowed to enter Uzbekistan because she is on a list of people who are "not wanted in that country."
No further details were available about why she was denied entry. Sharshenbek added that Ismailova may return soon to Bishkek from Almaty.
Ismailova's organization, formerly called "Citizens Against Corruption," has been an outspoken critic of government rights abuses in her home country.
