EU Court Refuses To Cancel Sanctions On Tycoon Usmanov, Russian Politician Shuvalov

The European Court of Justice on February 7 rejected appeals filed by Uzbek-born Russian tycoon Alisher Usmanov and former Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov against European sanctions imposed on them for having close ties with the Kremlin and supporting Moscow’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Usmanov has rejected having any ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In October, authorities in Germany searched several properties believed to be owned by Usmanov in the Munich and Tegernsee areas in Bavaria.
