KABUL -- Taliban fighters have been reportedly forced out of Afghanistan's Warduj district, which borders Tajikistan.
Badakhshan Province's police chief, General Imomuddin Mutmain, told RFE/RL late on April 2 that some 60 Taliban fighters were killed and some 200 wounded in the month-long operation.
He did not give details on casualties among Afghan security forces.
Mutmain added that one Uzbek citizen was among the wounded Taliban fighters.
Afghan officials stated earlier that a suspected member of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) was arrested in the area.
Since January 1, Tajik border guards have killed two people trying to cross their border with Afghanistan and detained a number of drug traffickers and suspected IMU members.
