Tajik Customs Arrests Foreigner With Large Amount Of Meth

DUSHANBE -- Tajikistan's customs service says a foreigner has been arrested after almost 63 kilograms of methamphetamine stimulant was found in his possession at Dushanbe International Airport.

Officials said the foreigner, whose citizenship was not made public, had been planning to travel on the weekend to Malaysia via Almaty, Kazakhstan, with the illicit cargo.

Officials said customs officers found 16 ceramic statuettes in the foreigner's suitcases that were filled with a substance that later was determined to be methamphetamine.

The potential street sale value of the confiscated synthetic drug was reported as $5.5 million.

This is said to be the biggest amount of synthetic drugs ever confiscated by Tajik authorities from an alleged trafficker.
