Russian TV Journalist Who Protested War On-Air Stripped Of Child Custody

A Moscow court has deprived a former Russian state television journalist who conducted an on-air protest against the invasion of Ukraine of custody of her two children. The court on October 25 upheld a complaint filed by the former husband of Marina Ovsyannikova in absentia. Ovsyannikova and her children have lived abroad since a few months after she appeared briefly on state television in March 2022 holding a sign reading: “Stop the war! Don’t believe propaganda.” Earlier this month, a court sentenced her in absentia to 8 1/2 years in prison for purportedly spreading false information about the military.
