The Russian parliament's lower chamber, the State Duma, has approved the third and final reading of a bill allowing for the confiscation of property and assets of individuals convicted on charges related to laws Russia adopted after it launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. These include distributing "false" information about Russia's armed forces; calls to violate Russia's territorial integrity; calls for sanctions against Russia and its citizens; collaborating to implement decisions by international organizations Russia does not take part in; and the rehabilitation of Nazism. State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin has said the bill targets assets that could be used "to finance criminal efforts against Russia's security."
