Putin Dismisses Reports That Ukrainians Carried Out Nord Stream Pipeline Blasts

Russian President Vladimir Putin has dismissed as "complete nonsense" allegations that pro-Ukrainian activists with no ties to the state could be behind the explosions on the Nord Stream gas pipelines. Putin said on Russian television that an explosion of this kind at such a depth "can only be carried out by specialists backed by the entire potential of a state that has relevant technologies." Putin spoke after several Western media outlets published stories citing unidentified U.S. and other officials as saying there was evidence Ukrainians may have been responsible.
