Several thousand people demonstrated on October 22 in Sarajevo to express support for the Palestinian people against the background of the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, designated a terrorist organization by the EU and the United States. The rally was organized by the Palestinian community of Bosnia-Herzegovina and called for an end to the Israeli shelling of the Gaza Strip. Sarajevo Mayor Benjamina Karic told the gathering that the people of Sarajevo, which experienced the "longest siege in modern history" during the 1990s, know "what it is like not to have water or food." Similar, smaller gatherings were reported in other Bosnian cities. To read the original story by RFE/RL’s Balkan Service, click here.
