WATCH: Suicide Bombing Kills Three In Northwest Pakistan

A suicide bomber has struck outside a local government office in northwestern Pakistan, killing at least three people and wounding more than 50 others.

The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the September 1 attack in the Jamrud area of the Khyber tribal district bordering Afghanistan.

Top Khyber tribal administration official Shahab Ali Shah told the AFP news agency that tribal police personnel were among the dead and wounded.

Jamrud is located some 25 kilometers northwest of Peshawar, the capital of Pakistan's volatile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.

After the blast, authorities closed the road leading from Peshawar, through the Khyber Pass, to the Afghan border to all traffic.

Pakistan has been waging a major offensive against militant hideouts in the country’s tribal northwest for more than a year.
