A Pakistani court has ruled as void the detention of the alleged mastermind of deadly attacks in the Indian city of Mumbai in 2008 and ordered his release.
In a ruling on March 13, the Islamabad High Court ordered the release of Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, chief of the banned Pakistani militant group Lashkar-e Taiba.
Lakhvi was granted bail by an antiterror court on December 18, but authorities later detained him under a public order law which was suspended by the Islamabad High Court on December 29.
Police told a lower court on December 30 that Lakhvi was accused in the kidnapping of a man six years earlier, and he was ordered to remain in custody.
Lakhvi is charged with masterminding a series of bomb and gun attacks that killed 166 people in Mumbai in November 2008.
