BISHKEK -- A court in Bishkek has upheld a prison sentence against the former head of Kyrgyzstan's presidential office, Daniar Narymbaev.
The Bishkek City Court upheld on May 24 Bishkek's Birinchi Mai District Court's November decision to sentence Narymbaev to three years and former lawmaker Khajimurat Korkmazov to 18 months in prison on fraud charges.
Narymbaev was arrested in July last year, several days after Korkmazov was detained while receiving $100,000 as a bribe from relatives of former lawmaker Nariman Tuleev, who was in jail at the time.
Narymbaev has insisted that he is innocent, while Korkmazov said he was just a mediator in the bribing scheme, the major goal of which was securing Tuleev's early release.
Tuleev, who was sentenced to 10 years in jail on corruption charges in 2013, was released in an amnesty on May 7.
