BISHKEK -- A woman has set herself on fire in front of the Kyrgyz parliament in Bishkek, demanding justice for her son.
Jyparkan Omurova poured gasoline over herself and set herself alight on January 31.
Security officers guarding the parliament managed to extinguish the flames that engulfed the woman.
The dramatic scene was captured on a video that was posted on the Internet.
Doctors say Omurova sustained second- and third-degree burns but her life is not in danger.
Before setting herself on fire, she told journalists that her son had been acquitted in an attempted murder case in the northern city of Naryn.
But she said the Naryn Province court later sentenced him to 13 years in prison.
According to her she was unable to find justice so she decided to stage her protest in Bishkek.
