Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic says NATO-led peacekeepers in Kosovo have rejected a request by Belgrade that Serbian security forces be allowed to return to Kosovo amid ongoing ethnic tensions. Serbia made the request in December, but the KFOR peacekeepers said that "there is no need" for the return of Serbian forces, Vucic said on January 8. The KFOR protection force, which comprises nearly 3,800 soldiers, was deployed in Kosovo in 1999 after the NATO alliance's bombing forced Serbian troops out of the territory.
