DUSHANBE -- German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has held talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe.

Steinmeier, who is also chairman in office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), arrived in Tajikistan from Kyrgyzstan earlier on April 1.

According to Rahmon's press service, the two discussed Tajik-German ties, as well as the work of the OSCE and their countries' role in it.

On March 31, Steinmeier held talks with Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambaev.

The two discussed regional and international issues, plus the OSCE's role in developing democratic institutions in Kyrgyzstan.

Steinmeier, who has also visited Uzbekistan on the current tour, has described Central Asia as a "region of strategic importance" with "considerable risks to [global] stability."
