Draft Recommendations Made For U.S.-Pakistani Relationship

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan's Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) has finalized its draft recommendations for redefining Islamabad's relations with Washington.

The draft recommendations include an immediate cessation of U.S. drone attacks on Pakistani territory and a stipulation that Pakistani territory should not be used for transporting arms and ammunition to Afghanistan.

Senator Haji Muhammad Adeel told Radio Mashaal that all the major political parties agreed on the final draft.

He said he expected the joint session of parliament would approve the recommendations soon, but gave no time frame.

Passage of the recommendations would move Islamabad one step closer to reopening the NATO supply route to Afghanistan, which was closed last November after a NATO air strike killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.

The conditions must also be accepted by NATO and U.S. officials before operations can resume.
