Belarus has added to the list of outlawed Nazi symbols the historic patriotic slogan "Zhyve Belarus!" (Long live Belarus!) that has been widely used by opposition activists and politicians. The authorities said on November 10 that the slogan was used by Belarusians who collaborated with Nazi Germany in the 1940s. However, the greeting was actually introduced in 1905-07 by Yanka Kupala, a prominent Belarusian poet and writer.
