Kabul Islamic Conference Ends Without Statement On Suicide Attacks

A one-day international conference of Islamic scholars in Kabul has ended without an expected joint statement condemning suicide attacks.

Islamic scholars from 24 countries convened in the Afghan capital, Kabul, on September 24.

The organizers of the event told RFE/RL that the major goal of the conference was to discuss the reconciliation process in Afghanistan, including the Taliban's participation in this activity.

The clerics also discussed suicide attacks in the country, which target civilians, police, and government officials alike.

The conference, which was supported by the Afghan government, was organized by the Islamic Cooperation Organization and Afghanistan's Islamic Clerics Council.
